Diary Entry #3

3rd day of Akhet

The sound of laughter woke me up today. When I gained my conscious, I went and dressed myself up in my white robe and ate my breakfast. As I said before, my job is an architect. Architects design tombs, pyramids, houses, etc. It was very rare to have a royal architect like me. These days, I have to get the progress of the pharoahs pyramid. But today was a break for me so I was munching on two loafs of bread, meat, and some vegetables. When I was about to walk outside my house, I saw a papyrus paper rolled up in my doorstep. “What is this?” I questioned as I began reading the paper. ‘You have been invited to the banquet at the pharaohs’. Please do come at evening.’ It said. When I was walking past the market, I saw Amun Hatep, the soldier wrestling some other people in the distance. “Hey! Can I join?” I asked. “Sure thing,” Amun Hatep said. It was me versus  Amun Hatep. “It’s on Amun Hatep!” I shouted as the match began. Amun Hatep was indeed very strong and I got knocked over. “Ouch!” I screamed in pain as I got back on my feet. He charged to me until I jumped over him. Later, I used all of my strength and flipped Amun Hatep over. “Nice try dude but you don’t have the skills yet.” I said as I walked away to the Nile River to have a dip. I was very sweaty so I swam in the river for 30 minutes until when Florika wanted to play a board game with me at her store. “Let’s play a game of Oujia!” She shouted as I was nervous about my future. Oujia was a board game that tells  a person’s future... I gently placed the board on my knees. Later, I put a heart-shaped table on top of the board. We put our thumbs and fingers on the table. “Oujia! Are you there?” Florika yelled as I said nothing. Florika and I continued the board game until I was too tired to continue.

‘For a long time, I haven’t gone hunting.’ I thought as I cancelled my work and decided to go hunting with my friend, Khay, the weaver. I walked to his house with a bow and arrow, a spear, etc for the hunt. I knocked on his door and Khay came out. “Iteti! What do you want my friend! I see that you want to go hunting with me! I would love to hunt with you.” Khay said. A few minutes later, we got our gear and headed to the woods. We had to walk for around 100 meters to reach our destination. “We’re here! But there aren’t that many trees here....” Khay shouted. There were lots of mulberry trees in this place so that’s why I chose it here. I plucked the berries from the trees as Khay and I collected around 300 mulberries. ‘Wow. That’s a lot of berries’ I thought as we now had to search for an animal. A few minutes later, in a blink of an eye, I saw something move. I signalled my friend as we held our spears. Suddenly, a wild deer started running as we chased after it. I quickly got my bow and arrow and tried aiming at the deer but it was too fast. I shot the arrow as it flew past the deer. I managed to catch the deer by my second try. After the first kill, we hunted some more. It was almost afternoon as Khay and I headed to the market. We sold the deer, lamb, jackal, etc and made lots of money. To make things fair, I had half of the money and Khay had the other half. Debi, the stone carver asked me if I could play a game of hockey outside. I nodded my head as we headed outside. Debi climbed up a palm tree and got us the materials. “It’s on Debi, it’s on!” I shouted as the game began. Minutes and minutes flew by as I needed a break. “That’s enough for a day” I said as I headed back to my house. “Biscuits! I’m late for the banquet!” I screamed as I dashed in high speed to the palace.

The banquet at the Meryl-Neith’s place was very enormous. Lot’s of people that I recognize such as Ani the jeweller, Tackla, Florika, Tia, etc. There were lots of food in the banquet. “Greetings Iteti! You arrived on time!” Meryl-Neith greeted me. “Wow! There’s lots of food to eat!” I was really thrilled. Khamen Rah, the musician was playing his flute. The music that Khamen Rah played was very catchy. Aneksi was dancing with other people. I was starving and decided to dig in. There was lamb, fish, beer, bread, olives, and coconuts. I started munching on my loaf of bread with lamb on it. Later, Amun Hatep, the soldier, told me to dance with the others. “I’m not good at dancing though...” I whispered as he pulled me to some people who were dancing. ‘Oh well. It’s not that bad’ I thought as I started dancing. I did back flips, front flips, etc. Later, Tackla, Florika, and Isis wanted to do a dramatic dance with me. “Sure thing..!” I quickly responded as we discussed about the story of the dance. Tackla and I used wooden clappers to make the rhythm. I had experience with dramatic dances before. You have to be creative to make a good story. Our story was when a kneeling girl represents a defeated enemy king, a standing girl the Egyptian king, holding the enemy with one hand by the hair and with the other a club.Lot’s of people gathered around as I started to feel more nervous. The dramatic dance began as I started to begin. I was the enemy king ,Tackla was the kneeling girl, Florika was the standing girl and Isis was the enemy. The dance was very smooth and creative. At the end, we bowed to the people can they started clapping. After that, I started to eat more and dance more until the banquet ended. It was time to go as I dragged myself back home. When I reached to my bed, I instantly started to sleep. It was a long fun day today.

Here's the instrument that Khamen-Rah played...
